THE BEAUTIFUL STORY OF "LASKA".
On the 13th July 2010 Barbara forwarded me an
email and a note ‘This dog is for you – the universe is asking you to take it on.
Love Barbara.... that was sent on behalf of
the Stellenbosch Animal Welfare.
It was a plea to adopt ‘Tanya’.
It is a few months later...almost a year, I felt that in recognition of the efforts,
energy and love that motivates you all
to make and find a better
life for many many animals I would give you some feedback on ‘Laska’
(she looks like she came from Alaska..so she became known as Laska).
As I type this I hear from the beside my desk the occasional grunt or satisfied sigh
as stretches out and then returns to a lazy slumber, sometime on her back
with paws up in the air. (she’s not always that laid back)
Adopting a ‘big’ dog with two little boys (3 and 1) for me was a bit of a stretch
and a leap of faith in that particular dog. How did we know it would work out...well,
we didn’t ..as it turns out she has been fantastic! She has a beautiful nature:
she is playful, she is gentle (for a big dog), enthusiastic, and she is a happy dog.
She also runs like a dream. There is nothing better than taking her down to Radloff
(we manage to get that right about 3 times a week) and watching her run,
she is particularly well socialised and is very very comfortable with any other
dog in the park. This is probably a result of being with a pack for many months
at the welfare (I think she was there for 6 months). She normally manages to get
other dogs to play with her. But wow, she is lithe and strong and bounds effortlessly.
I attribute her happiness, enthusiasm and comfort with other dogs
and people directly to the Stellenbosch Animal Welfare Society where she
must have been happy, loved and treated with kindness and respect.
Had it not been for that extra effort that you guys put into finding homes
for these animals i would never had had the opportunity of having her in our home.
So, I really thank you all for the selfless work that you do!
I personally have gained tremendously.
